The client is the recently appointed Managing Director of a standalone factory Business Unit that forms part of a large global public company operating in the electronics manufacturing services industry. The business and site itself are originally part of a competitor acquisition strategy of the parent and have be operating for over 10 years. The operation services a number of blue chip companies providing a reverse logistics repair and return operation for consumer electronic products.
The business is led by the MD and a senior management team of 10 and employs a workforce in excess of 300 full time equivalents. The factory’s annual turnover is c.$120m. Over the past 2 years the business’ profitability has turned into a regular quarterly loss and employee morale is at an all time low. The Managing Director has kicked off a number of improvement initiatives focusing on different areas of the business with this Lean Culture Kick Off project being only one.
Objective
The factory management and workforce have previously never implemented any structured continuous improvement, or lean program. Processes have evolved over time and bolted on to customers’ operations as and when new requests come along. Complacency has set in that has led to a great deal of ignorance, inefficiency and waste within the operation.
The client’s objective is twofold. Firstly, to utlise Liberty Point’s Lean Culture Kick Off project framwework as impetus for the commencment of a larger site wide business transformation project. The site wide project will leverage the lean philisophy learned in the Kick Off project to further drive lean culture adoption throughout the operation.
Secondly, the project will deliver a minimum of $500k annulaized cost saving initiatves. These initiatives will form part of the overall lean strategy and action plan for the site for the following year and beyond.
The MD engaged with Liberty Point to lead the Lean Culture Kick Off project which will then be carried forward by the recently recruited Continuous Improvement Manager (CIM).
Method
Liberty Point proposed a 3 Phase project that will create lean theory awareness, allow the workforce to visually experience tangible benefits of simple lean techniques in action, and create lean buy in by having employees actively participate and be rewarded for generating continuous improvement ideas. Afterall, who else is better placed to improve the process than those actually operating the process.

The client’s objective is twofold. Firstly, to utlise Liberty Point’s Lean Culture Kick Off project framwework as impetus for the commencment of a larger site wide business transformation project. The site wide project will leverage the lean philisophy learned in the Kick Off project to further drive lean culture adoption throughout the operation.
Secondly, the project will deliver a minimum of $500k annulaized cost saving initiatves. These initiatives will form part of the overall lean strategy and action plan for the site for the following year and beyond.
The MD engaged with Liberty Point to lead the Lean Culture Kick Off project which will then be carried forward by the recently recruited Continuous Improvement Manager (CIM).
